he people of Ireland are waiting to find out the results of a historic referendum on the introduction of gay marriage, with yes campaigners now increasingly confident of victory.
Turn-out has been high, and as crowds begin to gather at Dublin Castle, it appears that, rather than learning result, they will instead be awaiting confirmation of the scale of the victory for the yes campaign.
Irish people from around the world travelled home to take part in the referendum, which came only 22 years after homosexuality was decriminalised.
The final results are expected between 5.30 and 6pm.
